Strength training with blood flow restriction diminishes myostatin gene expression

This type of blood flow restriction can be done with the Japanese kaatsu equipment or DIY belts or bands around extremities. Note that since you are restricting arterial flow to the muscle tissue, you will be restricting oxygen too. This means that it should hurt even before starting to lift. If it doesn’t hurt, the bands are not tight enough. It is easier to regulate the amount of restriction with a sphygmomanometer.
